Volleyball Big Ten Conference Awards Announced

Nebraska receives all the individual awards except one

The Big Ten Conference Post Season awards include many Nebraska players and also Coach John Cook. The 14 head coaches in the conference vote on these awards.

2023 BIG TEN VOLLEYBALL POSTSEASON HONORS
Player of the Year: Sarah Franklin, Sr., OH, Wisconsin
Defensive Player of the Year: Lexi Rodriguez, Jr., L, Nebraska
Setter of the Year: Bergen Reilly, Fr., Nebraska
Freshman of the Year: Harper Murray, OH, Nebraska
Coach of the Year (Coaches & Media): John Cook, Nebraska

Lexi Rodriguez is the 2023 Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She also won this award during her freshman season, 2021. Last year the award went to Kylie Murr playing for Ohio State. This season Murr plays for Minnesota. Justine Wong-Orantes won this award as a Husker in 2015-16.

Bergen Reilly is the 2023 Big Ten Conference Setter of the Year. This is the first time the award has been given to a freshman. The award originated in 2012. Kelly Hunter won this award as a Husker in 2017. Last year the award went to Mac Podraza playing for Ohio State. This season Podraza plays for Penn State.

Harper Murray is the 2023 Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Year. Murray was named freshman of the week three different times this season. Madi Kubik won this award as a Husker in 2019. Last year the award went to Eva Hudson playing for Purdue.

Coach John Cook was named the 2023 Big Ten Conference Coach of the Year. This award has two different voting bodies; Big Ten Coaches and media voters. Both voting groups chose John Cook as the Coach of the year. This is the fourth time Coach Cook has received the Big Ten Coach of the Year honor and the eight time he has been named a conference coach of the year. Last year the award went to Kelly Sheffield of Wisconsin.

Nebraska received four First Team All Conference selections and two Second Team. Lexi Rodriguez and Merritt Beason were unanimously selected to the First Team while Harper Murray and Bergen Reilly were also voted onto First Team All Conference. Bekka Allick and Andi Jackson were both voted to Second Team All Conference.

Nebraska has the most players on the First Tteam as well as the most players overall on both First and Second Team. Nebraska also received all of the individual awards except the 2023 Conference Player of the Year Award which went to Sarah Franklin of Wisconsin. Last year the Player of the Year was Taylor Landfair of Minnesota.
