Nebraska Volleyball Advances in the NCAA Tournament Over Long Island University to Meet Missouri in the Second Round

Huskers showed sloppy play at times but wins in three sets

Nebraska 3 vs Long Island University 0 - 25-13, 25-16, 25-22

Nebraska played loose and consistent for most of the three set match. During sets one and two the Huskers could side-out at will and controlled the tempo of the match. During set three, Nebraska showed some first game nerves for this championship tournament but closed the set with a win.

Bekka Allick did not play tonight but was dressed and ready. Maggie Mendelson played in the middle and played it well. She hit .333 for the match with six kills. Post game interview, Coach Hunter said Mendelson has been the best middle in the gym for the last two weeks so she earned the start.

Merritt Beason led all players with 13 kills and hit .478 for the match. Nebraska had a very balanced attack with five hitters receiving double digit attempts and at least six kills each.

Nebraska also served seven aces and six errors. Nebraska was aced once by the Sharks. Three players passed 95% of the served balls for Nebraska; Harper Murray, Lexi Rodriguez and Laney Choboy.

Laney Choboy led Nebraska with 10 digs. Alasha Colon from LIU led all players with 15 digs. She was a consistent performer for the Sharks.

Nebraska is right back into action tomorrow against Missouri in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Earlier tonight, the Mizzou beat Delaware in three competitive sets in The Devaney Center. Nebraska vs Missouri is Saturday, December 2nd at 7:00 pm (CT) in Lincoln, NE. GBR!
